Pastoral Committee Food Festival Mission Objectives
Our objectives for the Pastoral Committee are to continue to broaden the chairperson base of the many subcommittees that form the leadership of the food and music festival. By including new members into these roles with the emphasis on ethnicity diversity thus increasing the leadership base with members of the Hispanic parishioner population, will ultimately strength the overall leadership.
It has always been the goal of the festival to bring together the diverse ethnic backgrounds that comprise our parish to work together for the common cause on putting on a successful festival and reaping the benefits of new friendships, community and a strengthened spirit of our Catholic Church. Truly the festival has already made great accomplishments in all those areas including providing a financial boost to our many needs within our church as well as in opportunities in the surrounding community. However, in the area of leadership, there is still a deficiency currently in the balance of leadership positions across the committee and sub-committees that does not reflect the current parish population base as a whole.
With a more culturally diverse leadership base, all parishioners will feel more part of the festival team as well as the church community and thus be more apt to join in to assist in great numbers than before. The people needed would be a mix of cultural backgrounds and the chairperson roles would instead be ‘chairpersons’ to lead the particular festival sub-committee. Basically, two is better than one and for some of the leadership established sub-committees a diverse resource would be enabled to act as co-chairperson to get the involvement going. Additionally, there will be positions for example in the games area that is in need for stable leadership as the key chairperson and thus open for a new member to fit the role and we would pursue that person to be from a Hispanic or other ethnic background. The resources require for this effort would be that only of the education building to hold kick-off and follow-up meetings.
These meetings would be ahead of when the first official festival steering committee meetings would begin in early April. This would allow time to pursue candidates for sub-committee chair or co-chairperson roles and not dominate the steering committee meetings with those objectives. The right skills match, attitude and past festival experience would all be considered in establishing the candidates.
